The Department of Educational Psychology within the College of Education at the University of Illinois is seeking to hire two assistant/associate professors in cognitive science. ?The successful candidates will be energetic individuals who show the leadership qualities required to enhance the College?s strategic interests in research at the interface of cognition and education. In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong interest in collaborating with relevant faculty across the Department, College and campus. Both positions are full-time, nine-month regular tenure-track or tenured appointments at a rank commensurate with experience.

We are known for our groundbreaking research, innovative approaches to teaching, and service to the global community. The College comprises four academic departments: Educational Psychology, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, and Education Policy, Organization, & Leadership. The College has 79 faculty actively engaged in research and over 660 undergraduates and 960 graduate students enrolled annually. Position expectations include carrying out an externally funded, multidisciplinary program of research and scholarship at the national level and teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in the learning sciences. The candidate will be expected to teach and advise doctoral and masters students and assume an active role as a responsible member of the College?s scholarly community. The specific substantive areas of interest are open and may include the application of cognition to educational problems; the acquisition and organization of knowledge in memory and its deployment; transfer of learning; problem-solving and expertise especially in the STEM areas; applications of cognition to educational technology and multimedia learning; and applications of assessment in the service of learning.

Qualifications:? The candidate must have an earned doctorate in cognitive science, the learning sciences, psychology, educational psychology, or a related field, and a scholarly record commensurate with a tenure-line position at a Comprehensive/Doctoral university as defined by the Carnegie Classifications.

Applicants at the associate professor level should have a strong, established track record of external funding.? Interdisciplinary research collaborations with partners in related fields such as computer science, psychology, or the STEM disciplines are highly desirable, as interdisciplinarity is a tradition at the University of Illinois. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to provide evidence of teaching abilities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Salary and Starting Date: Salary will be commensurate with experience. The proposed starting date is August 16, 2013.?
