Aberdeen Sports Village, the north east of Scotland?s premier sports facility, is gearing up to host its very first international football match. On Sunday July 15th at 3pm, Cameroon woman?s football team will play the Scotland women's national team.

As the Olympic flame makes its way back to London, Aberdeen Sports Village, the north east of Scotland?s premier sports facility, is gearing up to host its very first international football match. On Sunday July 15th at 3pm, Cameroon woman?s football team will play the Scotland women's national team in an international challenge match in preparation for their Olympic campaign.

Aberdeen Sports Village Chief Executive David Beattie said: ?It?s an amazing honour to be selected as a host for one of the international teams and a real testament to the quality of our facility, especially as only one other city in Scotland was chosen.
?The challenge match is also a fantastic opportunity for people in Aberdeen and the north east to get involved with this year?s Olympic celebrations. There was a huge local response to the torch relay earlier this month and we couldn?t be happier that we are able to offer people a chance to get involved ? this way nobody has to miss out.?

This will also be the first time the Scotland women?s team have played in Aberdeen. Scotland team regular and Aberdeen local Rachael Small said: ?I train at ASV every week and the facilities are second to none so it came as no surprise that it was selected as a host venue.

?I?m really looking forward to the upcoming game against Cameroon ? having the chance to play an international match in my home town would be brilliant.?
Scotland women's national team coach, Anna Signeul said: ?Aberdeen Sports Village is a fantastic facility and we're delighted to be taking part in the first international match here. Our focus is reaching the play-offs for UEFA Women's Euro 2013. After defeating Israel 8-0 and beating Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Cork this week, Cameroon will provide an interesting and crucial challenge for us as we prepare for the final two matches of the campaign."

Aberdeen City Council?s Convener of Education, Culture and Sport Committee Jenny Laing said: ?The ethos behind Aberdeen Sports Village has always been that the facilities on offer are first rate and suitable for elite athletes and residents alike.
?Aberdeen Sports Village is used daily by all ages and fitness levels but it is testament to the fantastic sports provision on offer that the venue has been chosen to host such a prestigious event.?

The Cameroon team will arrive on the 2nd July for their two week pre-games training camp at ASV and RGU: SPORT ahead of the Games.
Great Britain's women's football team will play New Zealand in the opening event of the Olympic Games at the Millennium Stadium on 25 July.
